Being judged is a major issue in the world today and many adults feel that wisdom comes with age, that is not always the case. Katie Simonds who was featured on the Ted talk explained how just because she is 17, does not mean that she does not know what is going on in the world of politics and education. I too agree that with every year that students get older through high school, they are less likely to raise their hand because they are scared and nervous of being judged or answering incorrectly; this should never be the case, students should not have to be worried that they will not answer correctly, school is the place for them to learn and grow.
Making sure students feel like they matter is important because whenever they are in school it is the most pivotal time in their lives. Building relationships with students that they will remember for a lifetime will make their school years more enjoyable and influential. Dr. Tae explains that one of the most terrible teachers that he ever had, was one of the most memorable. This is a terrible thing, and it is something that students probably experience on a yearly basis! I hope that students never remember me for being a terrible teacher. I want to make sure that my classroom and shop are open for any student who needs help or just someone to talk to.
Leading by example is something that I plan on implementing by treating all students with respect and giving everyone a chance. If all students have respect for me, they will listen to what I have to say and they will treat the rest of the class the same way.
Thanks,
Mike
Ok Mike, but I need more...
